A Full-Circle Moment: Flowers for the James Beard Stadium Chef Series
Share

When the James Beard Foundation hosted its Stadium Chef Series at Nationals Park, our team at She Loves Me had the joy of bringing a little floral magic to the table — literally. We partnered with one of our trusted local flower farmers to create bold, juicy centerpieces featuring a surprising mix of amaranthus and apples.
It was a design that challenged our instincts in the best way. We wanted to echo the abundance and creativity of the culinary world — something vibrant, unexpected, and a little bit delicious. The result was a feast for the eyes: cascades of amaranthus in deep chartreuse tones, offset by glistening apples that added natural texture and playfulness.
Flowers That Tell a Story
This project felt personal. Before flowers, I (Holley) spent years as a food journalist, writing about the people, flavors, and stories behind Washington, DC’s dining scene. Walking into Nationals Park and seeing chefs I once interviewed — now thriving, plating, and laughing together — was a real full-circle moment.
Between arranging stems and catching up with old friends, I was reminded that both food and flowers tell stories through color, texture, and emotion. They both connect people — around tables, in conversation, through sensory experiences that stay with you.
Why We Love These Collaborations
Designing florals for events like this reminds us why we do what we do: to create beauty that amplifies connection. Working alongside the James Beard Foundation and DC’s most talented chefs felt like being part of a larger creative ecosystem — one where everyone brings their own artistry to the table.
We left Nationals Park that day with full hearts (and some sticky apple hands), grateful for the chance to design something that bridged two worlds we love: food and flowers.
