Wildly Textural Wedding Flowers at Historic Tuckahoe: A Non-Traditional Take on Romance

At She Loves Me, we believe wedding flowers should feel like you—natural, effortless, and anything but ordinary. For this stunning wedding at Historic Tuckahoe in Richmond, Virginia, we designed non-traditional, textural wedding florals that celebrated the wild, living beauty of nature.

Rather than relying on big, bold blooms, we let green hydrangea kissed with red, local grasses, and unique greenery tell the story. The result was a modern garden-style wedding that felt both wildly untamed and beautifully refined.

Our Approach to Textural Wedding Flowers

Every stem was chosen with intention. We started with a base of rare green hydrangea touched with red—a tough-to-find variety that we worked hard to source through our trusted partners. From there, we layered in locally grown grasses, trailing vines, and a mix of greenery that felt fresh and unpredictable.

Nothing about this design was one-note. The final look was a captivating tangle of wildness that somehow managed to look completely polished—proof that texture alone can create major impact without relying on oversized blooms or traditional compositions.

Natural Ceremony Florals That Blended Into the Garden

Set in the gossamer gardens of Historic Tuckahoe, the ceremony design was all about blending in with the natural surroundings. Our florals appeared to have grown straight from the earth—a lush, organic installation that felt right at home among the historic property’s meadows and greenery.

This “grown-in-place” look is one of our favorite approaches to outdoor weddings. It keeps the focus on the couple while creating an atmosphere that feels grounded, soft, and storybook-romantic.

A Non-Traditional Wedding Bouquet with Wild Clematis

The bride’s bouquet was a textural dream: dainty Queen Anne’s lace, trailing clematis vines, and a lush mix of greenery that brought movement and airiness to her look. She described it as “better than she could have imagined.”

It’s a perfect example of how small, intricate details—like the curve of a vine or the flutter of lace-like petals—can make a bouquet feel deeply personal and memorable.

Venue Highlight: Historic Tuckahoe’s Garden Charm

Historic Tuckahoe provided the perfect backdrop for this non-traditional, garden-inspired wedding. Its sprawling grounds, mature trees, and timeless architecture created a natural stage for our textured florals to shine.

We love venues like this because they invite a sense of ease and authenticity—ideal for couples who want their wedding day to feel like an extension of the landscape itself.

Florist Spotlight: Becca’s Brilliant Touch

A huge shout-out goes to our florist Becca, who worked tirelessly to source the best stems and bring this vision to life. Her ability to weave together texture, tone, and movement is pure magic. She’s a true talent—and an absolute asset to our team.
